The tool we chose to explore was Diigo, an application that allows students to save pages and documents from the Internet and annotate them. Students bookmark pages using the Diigo widget and those pages are stored in the student’s library, where they can view all documents as well as annotations. Students can highlight, bookmark, attach sticky notes, and take screenshots within the saved document. After annotating, students can share their notes within groups. These groups could be their fellow classmates, or people from around the world. Students can find groups that fit their interests and intentions and share within a safe community. This application gives students easy access to their notes without having to keep up with several binders for different classes. It also gives students the ability to choose from a very wide variety of content; they have the entire Internet at their fingertips! Group projects are easy with Diigo, students simply create groups with their group members and share their findings with each other. These notes can be accessed online from any computer, which eliminates the hassle of photocopying or taking pictures of notes and sharing them that way. Teachers can easily keep track of students’ note taking with Diigo. By making sharing and connection among students and teachers easy and safe, this application promotes technological communication and collaboration among students. Diigo makes note taking easy.
